Greg grew up poking around on an upright piano, competing with his brother to figure out the themes of movies they loved. Soon, he was making his own short films and learning the importance of music in shaping a story. Greg traveled the road of movies and music from NYU film school to UCLA for film scoring where he was awarded a BMI scholarship in composition.
He has worked with Matt Nix (creator, “Burn Notice”), Richard Kelly (director, “Donnie Darko”) and Mark Palansky (director, “Penelope”). He has composed music for the ASC and The Learning Channel. Currently, he is writing songs for a musical as well as a series of piano suites for several films in development.
Frequently, you can find Greg volunteering at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, performing his compositions as part of their “Music for Healing” program.
A score fits like a glove, changing from moment to moment and timed precisely to picture. Typically, the more complex the music’s relationship is to picture, the more a project will need to be traditionally scored.
An often cheaper alternative is to create a music library hand-tailored to your project. This gives the editor or producer direct control over how the music is layed in. A personalized music library is a good solution for projects that continue to evolve, projects that will recycle the same music or long projects on a tight budget.
Usually in reality television, producers have two choices: hire a composer to create a score or subscribe to a pre-existing music service. With music services, money is often wasted paying editors to hunt through enormous libraries for cues that often are not the best fit. A personalized library is another solution. It cuts corners and saves time in the editing room while providing high quality cues, outfitted for your project.
